Preface

Welcome to this special Urdu-English-Arabic Dictionary, carefully designed as a helpful learning tool for students in schools and madrasas who are eager to learn English and Arabic.

Learning new languages can open countless doors of knowledge and opportunity, especially in today’s globalized world. However, many learners face difficulties due to the lack of simple, accessible resources that connect Urdu, English, and Arabic in one place. This eBook aims to fill that gap by providing an easy-to-use, well-structured dictionary that helps learners understand and memorize vocabulary across these three languages.

Why this dictionary?

It is specially created for students and beginners in schools and madrasas.

Words are carefully selected to cover common, useful vocabulary relevant to everyday life and studies.

The dictionary includes clear and colorful images to help learners visualize meanings, making the learning process engaging and effective.

It encourages learners to build confidence in reading, writing, and speaking both English and Arabic.

This dictionary serves as a bridge, helping Urdu-speaking learners easily grasp words in two important international languages.

This is the first part of a comprehensive project, and very soon, within the next six months, we will publish subsequent parts that will expand your vocabulary even further and include more advanced words and phrases.

We hope this dictionary will be a valuable resource that supports teachers, parents, and students alike. Whether you are studying in a traditional madrasa or a modern school, this book is made to assist you in your language learning journey.

If you have any questions, suggestions, or inquiries, please feel free to contact us via email at: [your email address].

Thank you for choosing this dictionary, and we pray it helps you succeed in your studies and opens new horizons for your future.

Writer’s Note

Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu,

We are the students of Darul Uloom Moinuddin Chishti, Vidi bhojapara, Wankaner a place where traditional Islamic knowledge and modern education come together to build strong foundations for the future. As learners ourselves, we understand the challenges faced by students who wish to expand their skills in multiple languages—especially English and Arabic alongside our beloved Urdu.

This dictionary is a sincere effort from our hearts to help fellow students and learners in schools and madrasas alike. We created this book with the hope that it will serve as a useful and accessible resource, making language learning easier, more engaging, and more effective for everyone. By including clear words, simple explanations, and colourful images, we aim to make the learning experience enjoyable and memorable.

Learning English and Arabic opens many doors—not just for academic success, but also for understanding the vast treasures of Islamic knowledge, accessing global information, and connecting with the wider world. We hope this dictionary serves as a bridge, empowering you to communicate confidently and to deepen your connection with the Quran and Sunnah.

This is just the first part of our project. We are working diligently to prepare subsequent volumes, which we plan to release within the next six months, to further enrich your vocabulary and language skills. Our intention is to continue serving the community and to help as many students as possible.

We pray that Allah blesses this humble work, accepts it as a means of beneficial knowledge, and rewards all of you who use it with success in this life and the Hereafter. If you have any questions, feedback, or suggestions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us via email. Your support and encouragement mean a lot to us and inspire us to keep improving.

May Allah guide us all on the straight path and grant us knowledge that benefits ourselves and others.

Jazakum Allahu Khairan.

6 The Story of Prophet Salih (عليه السلام)

The Story of Prophet Salih (عليه السلام)

After the people of ‘Ād were destroyed, another tribe rose in the land of Al-Hijr (northwest Arabia), known as Thamud. They were strong, wealthy, and skilled in architecture, carving elaborate homes into mountains. However, like the people before them, they were arrogant and worshipped idols.

To guide them, Allah sent Prophet Sālih (عليه السلام), a righteous and wise man from among them. He called them to worship Allah alone, abandon idol worship, and live righteously.

“O my people! Worship Allah; you have no deity other than Him.” (Qur’an 11:61)

The people were amazed and asked for proof. So, they demanded a miracle—a special sign. They said:

"Bring us a sign if you are truly one of the messengers." (Qur’an 26:154)

By Allah’s command, a she-camel emerged miraculously from a solid rock. It was no ordinary animal—it was massive, beautiful, and unique. This was a clear sign from Allah.

Salih (عليه السلام) told his people:

“This is the she-camel of Allah—a sign for you. Let her graze in Allah’s land and do not harm her, or a painful punishment will seize you.” (Qur’an 7:73)

The she-camel drank a lot of water, so Prophet Salih (عليه السلام) arranged a schedule: the camel would drink from the well one day, and the people would use it the next.

The camel also provided abundant milk for the people. Despite this clear sign, many still disbelieved, mocking and rejecting Salih.

The Crime and the Punishment

The leaders of Thamud, threatened by Salih’s influence, plotted to kill the she-camel. One day, a group of nine conspirators ambushed and slaughtered the she-camel, ignoring Salih's warnings.

“They hamstrung the she-camel and rebelled against the command of their Lord…” (Qur’an 91:14)

Salih (عليه السلام) was devastated. He said:

“Enjoy yourselves in your homes for three more days. That is a promise not to be denied.” (Qur’an 11:65)

The Destruction of Thamud

Three days passed. On the fourth day, a mighty earthquake struck them, and a blinding blast from the sky destroyed the entire nation. Their luxurious homes in the mountains collapsed, and they were left lifeless, lying face down.

“So the earthquake seized them, and they became lifeless bodies in their homes.” (Qur’an 7:78)

Only Salih and the few believers were saved. He turned away from the ruins of his people and said:

“O my people, I conveyed to you the message of my Lord and gave you advice, but you do not love those who give good advice.” (Qur’an 7:79)

7 The Story of Prophet Adam’s Repentance (Tawbah)

After Allah created Prophet Adam (peace be upon him), the very first human being, He honored him by teaching him the names of all things and commanding the angels to bow before him. All obeyed except Iblis (Satan), who refused out of pride and arrogance. For this, Iblis was cast out of Paradise, but he vowed to mislead Adam and his descendants.

Allah created Adam and his wife, Hawwa (Eve), and placed them in the beautiful and bountiful Garden of Paradise, where everything was easy and abundant. They were allowed to eat freely from all trees except for one particular tree which Allah forbade them to approach or eat from. Allah warned them clearly that disobeying this command would bring great harm.

For a time, Adam and Hawwa lived peacefully in the Garden, enjoying its blessings and closeness to Allah. However, Iblis, determined to cause their downfall, whispered evil suggestions to them, sowing doubt and tempting them to disobey Allah’s command.

Eventually, Adam and Hawwa were deceived by Satan’s cunning whispers. They approached the forbidden tree and ate from its fruit. In that moment, their innocence was lost, and they became aware of their nakedness and vulnerability. Their hearts filled with shame and regret.

When Allah called out to Adam, He asked:

“Did I not forbid you from that tree and tell you that Satan is to you a clear enemy?” — Qur’an, Surah Al-A’raf (7:22)

Adam admitted his mistake and acknowledged the deception:

“Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers.” — Qur’an, Surah Al-A’raf (7:23)

This moment marks the first sincere repentance (Tawbah) in human history. Adam turned to Allah with humility and remorse, fully aware of his error and sincerely seeking forgiveness.

Allah, the Most Merciful, accepted his repentance:

“Then He (Allah) taught him the words to say, [saying], ‘Go down from Paradise— all, [your descendants] being enemies to one another. And if there should come to you guidance from Me— then whoever follows My guidance will neither go astray nor suffer.’” — Qur’an, Surah Ta-Ha (20:123)

Adam and Hawwa were then sent down to Earth, not as a punishment of eternal damnation, but as part of Allah’s divine plan for humanity to live, test themselves, and seek Allah’s guidance throughout life.

The story of Adam’s repentance teaches us many profound lessons:

Everyone makes mistakes: Even the first human, created by Allah’s own hands, slipped into error. It is part of the human experience.

Sincere repentance is always accepted: No matter the sin, if one turns to Allah with genuine remorse and a commitment to change, Allah’s mercy is vast.

Allah’s mercy is greater than His wrath: Adam’s forgiveness shows that Allah does not desire punishment but wants His servants to return to Him and be saved.

Life is a test and a journey: Being sent to Earth was a new phase where Adam and his descendants would face trials and have opportunities to prove their faith.

In Islamic tradition, Adam’s repentance is a beacon of hope for all humanity. It reassures us that mistakes do not mean the end, but can be the beginning of a new chapter filled with mercy, learning, and spiritual growth.

8 The Story of Ibrahim and the Fire

Long ago, in the ancient land of Babylon, lived a young man named Ibrahim (peace be upon him). He was born into a society drowned in idol worship. His own uncle, Āzar, carved idols from stone and wood, and the people bowed to them day and night, believing they brought them blessings, rain, children, and protection.

But Ibrahim's heart was never at peace with this. From a young age, he would look up at the stars, the moon, and the sun, wondering if these mighty creations were worthy of worship. But when they disappeared from the sky, he realized: they, too, were created. They were not gods. Only the One who created all things was worthy of worship — Allah, the Lord of the heavens and the earth.

As he grew older, Ibrahim began speaking openly, calling his people to abandon idols and worship Allah alone. His words were bold and fearless. He told them, “These idols cannot hear you, cannot help you, and cannot harm you. Why do you worship that which you carve with your own hands?”

His people were angered. His father rebuked him harshly. But Ibrahim remained patient and determined. One day, when the people had left town for a festival, Ibrahim entered the temple where their many idols stood. With an axe in hand, he smashed them all, leaving only the largest idol intact, and he hung the axe around its neck.

When the townspeople returned and saw the destruction, they were furious. “Who did this to our gods?” they shouted. Some of them said, “We heard a young man named Ibrahim speak against them.”

They brought him forward and questioned him. Calmly, Ibrahim pointed to the large idol and said, “Ask him — if he can speak.”

The people fell silent. Deep down, they knew the idol could not answer. But their pride and arrogance blinded them. Instead of accepting the truth, they screamed in rage and decided to make an example of Ibrahim.

"Burn him!" they cried. “Burn him and protect your gods!”

A massive fire was built — so large and hot that the flames reached the sky. The heat was so intense that no one could approach it. They constructed a giant catapult, and from a great distance, they flung Ibrahim into the heart of the fire.

As he flew through the air, the Angel Jibrīl ( عليه السلام) came to him and asked, “O Ibrahim, do you need any help?”

But Ibrahim, whose trust in Allah was complete, replied, “Hasbiyallāhu wa ni‘mal-wakīl” — “Allah is sufficient for me, and He is the best disposer of affairs.”

Then came the command from Allah, the Lord of all creation:

“O fire, be cool and safe upon Ibrahim.” — Qur’an, Surah Al-Anbiya (21:69)

And at once, the fire obeyed. Its flames lost all heat. What should have burned a man to ashes became a garden of peace. Ibrahim stood in the fire, unharmed, untouched, surrounded by the miracle of his Lord.

The people watched in shock. They had never seen anything like it. Their eyes saw with certainty that this man was protected by God.

But many still turned away in disbelief. Only a few believed in Ibrahim’s message. Among them was a noble woman named Sarah, who later became his wife, and a young man named Lut (عليه السلام), who also became a prophet.

From that day on, the story of Ibrahim and the fire was passed down through generations — not just as a tale of fire and survival, but as a testament to what true faith, courage, and trust in Allah can achieve.

9 🌙 The Miracle of the Splitting of the Moon

🌙 The Miracle of the Splitting of the Moon

A Story from the Life of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ

Long ago, in the peaceful desert city of Makkah, under the vast Arabian sky, lived a noble man named Muhammad ibn Abdullah ﷺ. He was known for his kindness, honesty, and deep love for his people. But most importantly, he was chosen by Allah to be His final messenger to all of humankind.

One calm night, when the sky was clear and the stars twinkled brightly, a group of people from the Quraysh tribe came to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ with a challenge. They said:

"O Muhammad, if you truly are a Prophet, then show us a sign from the heavens. Make the moon split in two!"

Though they asked mockingly, Allah willed to show them a great sign. So, the Prophet ﷺ, with complete trust in his Lord, pointed toward the full moon shining above the sacred city of Makkah.

And then — a miracle happened.

Right before the eyes of the people, the moon split into two parts. One half drifted to one side of the sky, and the other half to the opposite side. The two parts remained separated for a short time, with a mountain even appearing between them — and then, they gently came back together.

The sky was silent, the stars still twinkled, and the people were speechless.

Some fell to the ground in awe. Others looked at one another, unable to believe what they had seen. But some stubbornly said:

“This must be magic!”

They ran to the outskirts of Makkah and waited for travellers to arrive from the desert. When those travellers came, they confirmed:

"Yes, we too saw the moon split in two!"

Despite witnessing this miracle, some of the disbelievers still refused to accept the truth. But the believers' hearts were filled with faith, knowing that this was one of the great signs of Allah and a blessing given to His Messenger ﷺ.

📖 Quranic Reference

This miracle is also mentioned in the Qur'an, in Surah Al-Qamar (Chapter 54), verses 1–2:

اقْتَرَبَتِ السَّاعَةُ وَانشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ وَإِن يَرَوْا آيَةً يُعْرِضُوا وَيَقُولُوا سِحْرٌ مُّسْتَمِرٌّ

Translation:

“The Hour has drawn near, and the moon has split. Yet if they see a sign, they turn away and say, ‘Passing magic.’” (Qur’an 54:1–2)

10 The Story of Prophet Nooh ((عليه السلام))

After the time of Prophet Adam ((عليه السلام)), people lived in peace and worshipped Allah. Over time, however, Shaytan misled them. They began to worship righteous men after their deaths by making idols in their memory. Eventually, generations forgot the purpose and began worshipping the idols themselves. This was the beginning of shirk (associating partners with Allah).

Allah sent Prophet Nooh (عليه السلام) as a messenger to guide his people back to the truth. Nooh ((عليه السلام)) was a wise, patient, and devout man. He called his people to the worship of Allah alone, saying:

"O my people! Worship Allah, you have no other god but Him." (Qur’an 7:59)

Nooh (عليه السلام) preached to his people for 950 years (Qur’an 29:14), day and night, in public and in private. But the majority of people rejected him. They mocked him, called him mad, and accused him of being nothing more than an ordinary man. Only a small group of poor and humble people believed in his message.

The leaders and the rich mocked Nooh and said:

"We see no one follow you except the lowest among us." (Qur’an 11:27)

But Nooh (عليه السلام) remained patient and kept praying to Allah for guidance for his people. Despite his long efforts, their hearts were sealed. Eventually, he turned to Allah and made a heartfelt dua:

“My Lord, I have called my people night and day, but my call increased them not except in flight.” (Qur’an 71:5–6)

“My Lord, do not leave upon the earth from among the disbelievers an inhabitant.” (Qur’an 71:26)

The Command to Build the Ark

Allah then revealed to Nooh (عليه السلام) that none of the disbelievers would believe now, and instructed him to build a great ship (ark) under His guidance:

"And construct the ship under Our eyes and Our revelation…" (Qur’an 11:37)

Nooh began building the ark far from any sea. People mocked him even more, laughing at the sight of a prophet constructing a ship in the middle of dry land. But Nooh knew that Allah’s promise was true.

When the ark was completed, Allah instructed Nooh to take into it:

The believers

A pair of every kind of animal (male and female)

Supplies for survival

The Great Flood

When Allah’s command came, water gushed forth from the earth and heavy rain poured from the skies. The earth was covered with water, forming a massive flood that drowned everything.

Nooh (عليه السلام) called out to his son, who had refused to believe:

“O my son, come aboard with us and be not with the disbelievers.” (Qur’an 11:42)

But his son replied:

“I will take refuge on a mountain to protect me from the water.”

Nooh said: “There is no protector today from the decree of Allah except for whom He gives mercy.” (Qur’an 11:43)

Before the conversation ended, a wave separated them, and his son was drowned.

The Ark Rests on Mount Judi

After many days and nights, the rain stopped and the waters began to recede. Allah commanded the earth to absorb the water and the sky to clear. The ark came to rest on Mount Judi.

Nooh (عليه السلام) was heartbroken over his son, but Allah reminded him that His decisions are based on justice and knowledge.

“Indeed, he was not of your family; indeed, his work was other than righteous.” (Qur’an 11:46)

Nooh (عليه السلام) accepted Allah’s wisdom and submitted to His will. He and the believers disembarked from the ark and began a new life on earth.

Lessons from the Story of Nooh (عليه السلام)

Tawheed (Oneness of Allah) is the foundation of Islam.

Patience in Dawah (calling to Islam) is essential, even in the face of rejection.

Faith over status: The believers were poor, yet they were the ones saved.

Obedience to Allah brings salvation, while arrogance leads to destruction.

The flood was not just a punishment but a cleansing of the earth for a new beginning.
