Many Muslims often see or write 786 or 92 instead of Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem. But what do these numbers really mean? Let’s understand clearly.
What Does 786 Mean?
786 is a numerical representation (Abjad system) of the Arabic phrase:
بِسْمِ ٱللَّٰهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
(Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem)
In the Abjad system, every Arabic letter has a numeric value. When the values of the letters in Bismillah are added, the total comes to 786.
Important Note:
🔹 786 is NOT in the Quran
🔹 786 is NOT a Sunnah
🔹 It is only a cultural shorthand, mostly used in South Asia
👉 Saying or writing Bismillah in words is always better.
What Does 92 Mean?
92 represents the numeric value of the name “Muhammad” (محمد ﷺ) in the Abjad system.
Letter Values:
- م (Meem) = 40
- ح (Haa) = 8
- م (Meem) = 40
- د (Daal) = 4
Total = 92
Is It Correct to Use 786 or 92?
Islamic View:
✔️ Using numbers is not haram, but
✔️ They do not replace actual words
❌ Writing 786 instead of Bismillah is not recommended
